Brett Gurewitz’s 1965 Fender Stratocaster

Brett’s ’65 Strat is an absolute gem! I say this with some authority, as a guy that has played & own(ed) many Fender Stratocasters over the years, and currently play Strats (98% of the time at least) in Mario Lalli’s Rubber Snake Charmers.

Not all Strats are created equal regardless of the vintage, where it was made, custom shop or production; some are fantastic, most are average and some need to move on to another owner that would hopefully love or at least like a guitar that I cannot.

That said, Brett’s 65 Fender Strat is a phenomenal specimen! The Strat is in original unmolested condition featuring a beautiful factory juicy three sunburst and a Brazilian rosewood fretboard. At some point the guitar received medium jumbo frets which elevates the playability, at least suited to my preference as I prefer larger frets over the small frets found as stock issue on vintage Fenders.

Although the frets had been replaced it had been done some time ago and the Strat was due for a fret leveling and dressing, along with a complete setup. The work really elevated the playability of the ’65 Strat making it just buttery in one’s hands. Pickups were dialed in, the pots were cleaned making it sound as good as the day it rolled out of the factory.

I adored this guitar and would’ve loved to have had spent more time with it but I got back to Brett asap.
