Mario Lalli’s Squier Classic Vibe ’60s Jazzmaster
Mario bought this guitar on promotion for a ridiculously low price. Like many of the off shore production guitars Fender offers, it needed some work and Mario wanted a few modifications.
Modifications included installing a new pick guard that deleted the switches and pots just above the neck pick up and swapping out the stock bridge for a Thorn Brass Knuckle II Bridge. The Brass Knuckle II Bridge developed by Ron Thorn is beautifully crafted and is the most elegantly effective design that remedies the playability issues found with the original Fender JM bridge design. Other companies have produced improved replacement JM style bridges but none of them come close to ease of use and simplicity of the Ron Thorn offering.
Although this guitar is at the entry level of the price spectrum I was surprised how much I liked the sound of the pickups, I didn’t expect to like them as much as I did! I really love the esthetic of the Jazzmaster but I’ve never owned one, largely due to the shallow string break angle over the bridge. I could just never get comfortable playing it, probably due to me be so used to playing Strats, Teles and Gibsons with stop tail pieces, but that’s just me, lots of people like these guitars.
