Brett Gurewitz’s 1961 Gibson ES-330
Another one of Brett’s gems would be this ’61 Gibson ES-330 in original Sunburst finish. While showing me this guitar Brett told me that he was intending to find a Gibson ES-335, that is until the guy at the shop handed him the ES-330. Brett really loved how acoustically loud and resonate the 330 was as compared to the 335s he had just played.
If you don’t know, the Gibson ES-330s are of a totally hollow body construction, whereas the ES-335s (as well as the ES-345 & 355) feature a solid wood center block inside of the body, making the ES-330s fully acoustic and the ES-335s and the likes, semi-acoustic. This is the reason that the ES-330, as well as the other fully acoustic Gibson models (ES-175, 295, etc.) produce more volume when played acoustically.
Brett’s ES-330 is in great shape with the wonderful Gibson P90 sound. The frets are quite low but they are wide and the guitar plays nice and comfortably.
